In an era where client reporting remains one of the most critical and challenging functions within asset management, FundSense has reinforced its leadership with the appointment of Emma Sunshine as Head of Reporting Solutions.

For more than three decades, Sunshine has been at the forefront of reporting innovation in asset management. Her career began in the days when teams relied almost entirely on spreadsheets, manual compilation, and late-night reconciliations. And while technology has evolved, the frustrations she encountered early on (data fragmentation, regulatory pressure, and the risk of human error) continue to plague many firms today.

“Reporting should give clients clarity and confidence,” Sunshine observes. “Too often, it leaves teams firefighting instead - chasing data and correcting errors - rather than nurturing the client relationships that really matter.”

Her conviction that reporting must evolve is rooted in hands-on leadership. At GIB Asset Management, she established the Client Reporting function and spearheaded automation initiatives that proved the value of building infrastructure around a single, golden source of data. Without that foundation, she warns, firms face inefficiency, inconsistency, and erosion of client trust.

The consequences of poor reporting are real: reputational damage, regulatory breaches, and loss of client confidence. “Reporting is the client’s window into performance and stewardship,” she explains. “If that window is cracked, through errors or delays, clients will start to question whether their manager is truly in control.”

This perspective made FundSense a natural next step in her career. Unlike legacy platforms, FundSense was designed from the ground up to embed governance, remove duplication, and free reporting teams from manual intervention. For mid-sized firms in particular, this creates not only efficiency but also differentiation, turning reporting from an operational burden into a competitive advantage.

Looking forward, Sunshine predicts a shift away from static PDFs and batch reporting toward real-time, integrated, and ESG-driven insights. Clients, she argues, increasingly expect personalised digital experiences that reflect their values as well as their investments.

“FundSense is uniquely positioned to meet these demands,” she says. “With automation powered by a golden source of truth, we can help firms deliver reporting that doesn’t just meet requirements but inspires confidence, strengthens relationships, and builds lasting trust.”
